Specific Admission Requirements

1. Having a bachelor's degree, 2. Having at least 55 points from the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES), 3. Having at least 40 points from YDS or equivalent to the foreign language exams that accepted by the Inter University Council; students who can not meet these requirements must have a minimum score of 40 from the central foreign language examination by the University, 4. Pass mark must be at least 65. The pass mark is 50% of the ALES score, 30% of the license graduation grade and 20% of the interview grade. For those who do not enter the interview, the pass mark is not calculated. Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Successful students who have completed at least one semester in any department of an institute or in a master's program in another higher education institution may be admitted by transfer to the program. The successful acceptance of the student is conditional upon the successful completion of all courses taken until the date of transfer and not to be received any disciplinary punishment.
Students who are entitled to transfer may request the exemption from the courses they have succeeded in previous higher education institutions.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The master program archeology with thesis consists of a total of nine courses, a seminar course, thesis work and field of specialization courses provided that it is not less than 27 credits. Seminar course, thesis study, and field of specialization courses are non-credit and evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The master's program with thesis consists of at least 120 ECTS credits for not being less than 30 ECTS credits in the academic year. At the latest from after the appointment of the consultant, the student must register for the dissertation period every year. In the first semester of the program, Scientific Research Methods and Publication Ethics course is compulsory and other courses will be taken as elective. In the second semester of the program, the seminar course is compulsory and other courses will be taken as elective. In the 3rd and 4th semesters of the program, “Thesis Study” and “Area of specialized” courses should be taken.

Profile of The Programme

The master program in Archeology involves departments of "Prehistory", "Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology" and "Classical Archeology". Students will be able to specialize in the courses covered by these departments. The Master's program in Archeology has a wide range of disciplines and research interests.
The aim of the program is to educate scientists who know the methods of scientific research and knowledge generation and use them in the field of archeology and also understand the importance of the concrete cultural heritage of humanity for today and civilization and to specialize about the specific elements of this concrete heritage. Graduates gain the ability to work with the most up-to-date scientific methods and technologies and to have knowledge of theoretical discussions.
The program aims to provide the researchers who will graduate from the program, as well as scientific knowledge production, to convey this knowledge to our people and to all humanity, to protect the concrete cultural heritage of humanity and to use the knowledge and concrete cultural heritage for social and economic development.

Graduates of the Archeology Graduate Program can work, by continue their academic career at the Universities and also at Republic of Turkey The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and its affiliated institutions and museums, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization as well as institutions affiliated to different ministries and some public institutions such as the General Directorate of Foundations, private museums, national and/or international research projects, KUDEB which founded within provincial and district municipalities or in various departments such as the Environment Directorate and also in architecture and construction companies that are interested in the restoration of cultural heritage. There are also employment opportunities in the fields of art and tourism.

Graduates who completed the Master's Degree may apply to doctorate (third cycle) programmes.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
|
:
|
1. It consists of exams, mid-term and final exams and make-up exams. Except for midterm exams, quizzes, projects and other activities deemed appropriate by the instructor can be done. The number of these activities and the contribution of the lecture notes are indicated by the instructor in the course plan. 2. In order for the student to take the final and make-up exams, he must have attended at least 70% of the theoretical courses. 3. Full score is 100 (one hundred) points in the exams. 4. The letter grade is given by the lecturer according to the success grade. In order to be successful in a course, the letter grade must be at least CC. 5. The contribution of the final exam is not less than 40% and not more than 60%. 6. Students who continue their studies are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The same assessment applies to courses taken as non-credit courses, field of specialization courses and seminars and does not participate in the GPA.

Our graduate students can benefit from the printed and digital resources of our university libraries. The Department of Archeology may participate in excavations and research held by faculty members.
