History : The department started to offer associate degree education as Traditional Handicrafts Program in 2002-2003 academic year. The Program was included under the Handicrafts Department in 2011. The Department of Handicrafts, which provides education at the level of formal education, consists of the Traditional Handicrafts Program.

Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle) : Pre Bachelor
Specific Admission Requirements : Candidates must have a high school diploma and a certificate that the related division has been placed by taking sufficient points from the Higher Education Transition Examination (YGS/YGS-1) conducted by the Center for Measurement, Selection and Placement (OSYM).
Students who want to study in the traditional handicrafts program need to have eye and hand coordination, design and drawing skills and aesthetic views. It is important for the students to be strong, careful and patient individuals who can fulfill the requirements of the courses.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) : Students enrolled in the program can be exempted from the courses they have achieved in the higher education institutions they have already studied. Also; An exemption examination is opened at the beginning of each academic year for the foreign language course and the proposals of the relevant committees and courses approved by Senate. Students who score 65 or more on the exemption exam are exempted from these courses.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : In order to obtain pre bachelor diploma degree from The Traditional Handicrafts Program, it is necessary to succesfully complete 120 credits that cover elective, mandatory courses, and also sector apllications according to European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). In addition to this condition, The average of the academic note must be at least 2.00 over 4.00.
Profile of The Programme : The Traditional Handicrafts Program is a program that provides pre-education on the design, production and marketing of all kinds of handicraft products that are used in everyday life. Scientific and artistic knowledge is based on the determination of traditional objects, technical researches and new applications. Basic lessons such as traditional Turkish patterns, tile, illumination, miniature, caligraphy are given theoretically and practically. Gained professional competences required of the job market. Grasped of the principle of productivity and adapted to developments in the relevant sector. Training researcher, participatory and problem solver members.
- One of the aim of the programe is to training the students who can prepare the handicraft products which made of paper, wool, leather, glass, ceramic, wood, stone. The students are equipped with the necessary products and marketing knowledge and skills for gaining new functional properties.
- Preparing the inventory of the handicraft products are taught.
-Carving wood, stucco work, wall paintings, metal works, in the traditional buildings are documented by the students.
-The tradition handicraft products are defined, analyzed and interpreted.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples : - They work as a teacher in the field of handicrafts in the Public Education Directorates .
- They work as of master instructors in various public and private institutions and organizations.
- They work in documentation and restoration area that include wood carving, stucco work, wall pictures, metal works.
- They can work on the subject of traditional Turkish art in the National Palaces, General Directorate of Foundations, the relevant units of the Ministry of Culture. There are possibilities to finding a job in private workshops.
- They work in industrial establishments engaged in the weaving, embroidery, sewing production.
- They can work in a workshop of ceramics, tiles and marbling and set up their own private workshops.
Access to Further Studies : İf the students having successful at the DGS examination, they continue to the Department of Traditional Turkish Handicrafts (Illumination, Calligraphy, Tile, Carpet, Rug and Old Fabric Patterns) of Faculty of Fine Arts.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : Evaluation criteria for each course is determined by the faculty member who is teaching the course and this evaluation criteria is available on the University Course Information Catalogue. The students are required to take at least one midterm and one final exam in the scope of each enrolled course. In addition to these, quizzes, homeworks, presentations, projects etc. are determined by the faculty member to be involved in the evaluation criteria. At the end of the year, the grades of the students are calculated by the combination of midterm and final exam grades, in-year activities and participation in class. When passing grade is determined, midterm exam is 40% and final exam is 60% effective. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. Success grade is converted to letter grade with relative evaluation system. The note that the student gets when calculating the success grade is converted to the letter grade in the relative system. The student must receive at least CC letter grades to be successful in a course. Students with a GANO score of at least 2.00 (DC) and (DD) are considered to be successful in grades. Students who do not have a failed course, but whose GANO is below 2.00, must first take the courses (DC) and (DD) to get their GANOs above 2.00 in order to graduate.
Graduation Requirements : Completing all necessary courses (120 ECTS) successfully during the permitted period on condition that at least 2.00/4.00 of Cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) and to have completed compulsory internship and training.

Facilities : We have 2 pcs design studio and workshop applications in our department. First design studio has drawing tables, light tables, computers, projectors, projectors, slides. Application workshop; 1200-degree oven with ceramic-tile, marble tables and various hand tools.
