History : Education was started in PhD Program in 2006-2007 Fall Semester. In Food Technology and Food Sciences disciplines graduate study is still holding.

Specific Admission Requirements : Candidates must have a Bachelor of Science’s or a Master of Science’s diploma to apply to the Philosophy of Doctorate program.

Candidates must have a score of not less than 55 points who have Master of Science degree and 80 points who have Bachelor of Science degree in the applied program from the Academic Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) and at lease 80 points in the system of 100 at Bachelor of Science diploma score to apply to the Philosophy of Doctorate.

Candidates must have at least 55 points from the central foreign language exams or equivalent international foreign language exams (exception of mother Language) accepted by the University Council., or an equivalent score from the international foreign language exam organized by ÖSYM. Achievement score in Philosophy of Doctorate programs is at less 65 points. Achievement score is the sum of the 50% of the ALES exam, 30% of the Bachelor of Science diploma score and 20% of interview. The score of candidates who do not enter interview are not calculated. Candidates who have a point of 65 or higher achievement score are listed according to their scores starting from the highest in Philosophy of Doctorate programs. Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) : Students enrolled to the Philosophy of Doctorate program may request exemption from the courses they have achieved in the equivalent programs at any of the other higher education institution. For the exemption from the courses they have achieved prior, they should submit their transcript and course contents to the relevant department within the next week of enrollment week.

Students who had Bachelor of Science degree must join at less fourteen courses in condition totally not less than forty two national credits and a seminar and successful at qualifying exam and preparation of thesis study, totally 240 ECTS credits in a maximum fourteen semesters
Profile of The Programme : Department of Food engineering consists of two disciplines as following: Food Technology and Food Science. The purpose of PhD Program is to bring to students the ability of doing science independently, discussion of scientific cases by examining extensively and determining adequate steps to achieve new synthesis. The other goal of this program is to train people, who are able to carry out research studies globally. PhD program is composed of at least 14 courses having minimum total 42 credits for graduates of bachelor degrees and at least 7 courses having minimum 21 credits for graduates of MSc degrees; proficiency exam; proposal of thesis and thesis dissertation study.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples : The graduates of program, who awarded with Doctorate degree, can be employed as food engineer or manager in food industry and research Associate/Lecturer/Academician in various universities.
Access to Further Studies : PhD graduates can continue their academic career in universities nationally or internationally. Additionally they can apply to post-doc programs.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : Exams are composed of mid-term, final and make-up exams. Other than exams, quiz, project, homework and other activates that the lecturer may consider appropriate can be applied. The number of these activities and the contribution to the achievement score are stated in the course plan by the lecturer. All exams can be applied as written, oral or both written and oral or practical. All exams are evaluated over 100 pointe and converted into letter grades by the system. Achievement score is calculated by taking not less than 50% of final exam and the percentage determined by lecturer of mid-term exam and other activates. Letter point limits are determined by the lecturer. The student must take at least a CB letter grade to be consider a successful for a course.

Facilities : Department of Food engineering consists of two disciplines as following: Food Technology and Food Science. In total 4 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors and 13 Research Assistants have been working in two disciplines. Department has 2 laboratories for the practice of students, 16 laboratories for research. In laboratories of food engineering department, spectrophotometer, shaking incubator, TA.XT Texture Analyzer, Kjeldahl protein digestion and distillation units, Soxhlet extractor, vacuum oven, refrigerated centrifuge, Gerber centrifuge, ultrasonic water bath, rotary evaporator, atomic absorption spectrometer, gas chromatography (GC), high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and tintometer, cooled incubator, Brookfield viscometer and shaking water-bath are present. As so long as a master/doctorate thesis is conceptualized, they can be supported by the MCBU Department of Scientific Research Projects and/or The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK).
