The Department of English Translation and Interpreting was established in 2018 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and started training activities in 2019-2020. Later on, Department moved under the wing of Faculty of Human and Social Sciences.

Students who wish to enroll in our department should: be graduate of a High School or its equivalent, get the necessary score at the LYS examination (Undergraduate Placement Exam) conducted by OSYM.
|

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
|
:
|
The students who register to the program and are transferred to the program via lateral or external transfer can require exemption from courses which they have already succeeded in at another university in which they studied earlier. Besides; an exemption exam is held at the beginning of each semester for Foreign Language and other courses which are approved by the Senate and the corresponding committees. Students who get a score of 65 from these exams are deemed exempt from these courses.

To be able to get a Bachelor's degree from the Department of English Translation and Interpreting, the students should succeed in a 30 ECTS-worth of compulsory and elective courses per semester and should accomplish 240 ECTS in total. Their GPA must be at least 2,00 out of 4,00.

Profile of The Programme

The Department of Translation and Interpreting aims to provide its students with the basic notion of translation. With the compulsory and elective courses they will take, students obtain knowledge, abilities and skills in different fields of translation. The application level of the courses are planned on a project basis and are focused on the use of technology.

Our graduates have employment opportunities in different fields of translation thanks to the skills they have acquired and the portfolios they have created with elective courses. In adittion, it is possible to find job opportunities in different fields with the supported major and minor programs.

Access to Further Studies

Our graduates who successfully complete their undergraduate program can apply to Master's and Doctorate degree in national and international higher education institutions, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient foreign language knowledge.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
|

|
Exams can be in different formats, depending on the exam calendar of our university and the relevant directive/regulations. The assessment and evaluation of exams, which can take the form of projects, midterm and final exams, and assignments, are reported to the students in the syllabus for each course and are organized within the framework of the translation discipline.

To be able to graduate students must be successful in all of the courses (equivalent of 240 ECTS) in his/her transcript and their GPA must be at least 2,00 out of 4,00.

Facilities

In our department, courses are carried out in translation and interpreting laboratories. The technological infrastructure of the courses is supported by different translation memory software, terminology tools and project management systems with the support of companies such as MemoQ, Memsource, XTRF, which were established in cooperation with the academy. Memory and terminology servers belonging to the department are also available to students.
Our department especially supports participation in Erasmus internship programs.
