History : The department was founded in 2011 within the Faculty of Arts and continues to provide undergraduate education since 2012-2013.

Specific Admission Requirements : Have an High School or an equivalent graduation and get the necessary score at the examination conducted by OSYM.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) : Students enrolled in the program and students with horizontal and vertical transitions can be exempted from the courses they have achieved in the higher education institutions they have already studied. Also; An exemption examination is opened at the beginning of each academic year for the proposal of Foreign Language and related boards and courses approved by Senate. Students who score 65 or more on the exemption exam are exempted from these courses.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations : Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Profile of The Programme : Art History Department is one of the eight section of Celal Bayar University Faculty of Letters. There are three divisions within the Department: Department of Turkish-Islamic Art , Department of Byzantine Art and Western and Modern Art Department.The main objective of the department is to instruct students into gaining a well-established critical perspective to History of Art within a large cultural span . Briefly, History of Art examines the historical evaluation of art. Morever, History of Art deals with any work of art in the conjuncture of the period it was produced, as well as taking into account religious, cultural, geographical, political events, and social movements of the period concerned. The programme embraces a great variety of subjects corresponding to diverse subject areas.Turkish and Islamic Art
Objectives:
Examining pre-Islamic culture and art by Turks, and the Islamic artwork of all cultures influenced by Islam. This discipline is chronologically separated into Pre-Islamic Turkish Art, Islamic Art, Anatolian Seljuk Art and Ottoman Art. In particular, this discipline is divided into different specialisation areas such as architecture, architectural decoration, crafts, book arts, miniature and coins/numismatics.
Byzantine Art
Objectives:
Byzantine Art Programme examines the culture, art and art objects of the Eastern Roman Empire and its capital, Constantinople, which was founded by the Roman Empire’s separation into two parts at B.C. 395, and remained until its conquest by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1453. Byzantium Art Discipline contains Early Byzantine, Middle Byzantine and Late Byzantine periods. Moreover, in this discipline there are studies about the concept and forms of art, the effects of Christianity, and artworks of the Empire.
Western and Contemporary Art
Objectives:
This discipline deals with the works of painting, sculpture, architecture and crafts that have been produced by all movements of art in Europe from the Middle Ages upto now. Furthermore, this discipline examines the development in Modern Turkish Art dating from the end of 19th century in accordance with the developments in Europe.


Learning time is 4 years.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples : Graduates will have the opportunity to work in Ministry of Culture and Tourism, municipalities, museums connected to private individuals and organizations, The Special Provincial Administration, Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection Board, Foundations Regional Offices, Libraries and Archives, Press, Media and areas related to tourism, departments of arts and culture of the Local administrations or private sector, Protection Application and Supervision Bureau (KUDEB).
Access to Further Studies : The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading : The students take at least one midterm and one final exam in the scope of each enrolled course. In addition to these, quizzes, home works and projects that are determined by the lecturer can also be involved in the evaluation criteria. The number of these evaluation criteria and the percentage of their contribution to the final grade is indicated by the lecturer in the course syllabus. All the exams are graded on the scale of 100 and these grades are turned into letter grades in a relative grading system.
To be successful, a student must achieve at least “CC” from that course. The students whose letter grades are (DC) and (DD) and who have an grade point avarage of 2,00 are also accounted successful. Students who have passed all of their courses but whose GPA are lower than 2.00 must retake their courses the letter grades of which are (DC) or (DD) and must achieve a minimum of 2.00 GPA.
Graduation Requirements : To be able to graduate students must be successful in all of the courses (equivalent of 240 ECTS) in his/her transcript including the The Research Project and their GPA must be at least 2,00 out of 4,00.
